About Me
Clara Choi is a visual communication designer, educator, and design education researcher working at the intersection of creative pedagogy, design thinking, and interdisciplinary collaboration across art/design and STEM. As Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Visual Communication Design at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, she builds learning and outreach initiatives that connect designers with science and engineering partners to address sustainability challenges through programs such as sustainable design workshops and the Design Thinking in Sustainable Science study-abroad experience. Her research examines creative mindsets, the role of visual communication in engagement and inclusion, and how design methods can help learners and communities make sense of complex scientific topics. Across teaching, research, and externally supported outreach, she advances inclusive, globally minded design education and communication strategies that support real-world problem solving in sustainability and the bioeconomy.
